Founded in 1968 as West Edina Lutheran Mission, Cross View Lutheran Church (part of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod) began with a small group of faithful families gathering for worship in the gymnasium of Creek Valley Elementary School. Guided by prayer, strong community support, and a vision for sharing the Gospel in western Edina, the congregation quickly grew. In 1969, the church adopted the name Cross View Lutheran Church, welcomed 114 charter members, and broke ground on the property that remains home to the church today.

Through the decades, Cross View expanded both its campus and its ministry opportunities. New pastors, staff members, and volunteers helped shape a church culture centered on worship, Bible study, Christian education, music, fellowship, and serving others. Ministries such as the Early Childhood Center, youth and family programs, community outreach events, mission trips, and service partnerships became important parts of congregational life. Throughout every season, Cross View remained committed to helping people grow in faith and share the love of Jesus with their neighbors.

As Cross View entered its fifth decade, the church focused intentionally on preparing for future generations. In 2018, after years of prayer and planning, the congregation voted overwhelmingly to move forward with a major campus expansion project called “Building for Generations 4.0.” The project included a large multipurpose gathering space known as the Great Commission Room, expanded lobby areas, renovated youth and Early Childhood Center spaces, and significant updates to the sanctuary and technology throughout the campus.

In March 2020, Cross View held its first worship service in the newly expanded space just as the COVID-19 pandemic began. While in-person gatherings were temporarily paused, the church quickly adapted through online worship, Bible studies, and digital ministry opportunities that connected people locally and around the world. Thanks to strong leadership, dedicated volunteers, and a growing technology ministry, Cross View continued to worship, learn, serve, and support one another during a challenging season.

Today, Cross View Lutheran Church continues to build on more than 50 years of ministry by equipping people of all ages to follow Jesus and share His love with the world. Through worship, discipleship, community outreach, mission partnerships, and programs for children, students, and adults, Cross View remains committed to carrying out the Great Commission and being a welcoming church home for generations to come.
