Life Verses

Our theme for the 2024–2025 year in ministry is “Empowered.” Throughout the year, we have deliberately worked to empower you in your walk of faith and in your witness to others through our programming and our many outreach events. One of the key ways that we are “Empowered” is through God’s Word. Isaiah reminds us, “The Word of our God stands forever” (Isa. 40:8b). The Psalmist reminds us, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Ps. 119:105). Speaking of His Father’s Word, Jesus reminds us, “Your Word is truth” (Jn. 17:17b). Paul exhorts us, “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Col. 3:16a).

God’s Word is life for us! In an attempt to empower you through God’s Word, we want to put God’s life-giving Word deep into your heart through a Lenten Series entitled “Life Verses.” The goal is to have the entire congregation internalize/memorize at least one Bible verse every week of Lent. It will be our “Life Verse” for the week. This will require some advanced preparation as we want the verse of the week to be memorized by the time we talk about it in worship. Your challenge? Each day of the week leading up to the Sunday when the “Life Verse” is discussed, read, meditate on, and memorize that verse. My prayer is that the verse will speak to your heart throughout the week, empowering your Christian walk, and witness as it dwells richly in you.

I pray that this series blesses your heart and helps you to value anew the importance of the internalization of scripture. When the Word of God is dwelling in us richly, it speaks to us as we go about our everyday activities. As these “Life Verses” are stored in your heart, may they empower you in your Christian walk and witness.

2025 Life Verses

March 3-9    Romans 8:15
March 10-16    John 3:16
March 17-23    John 13:34-35
March 24-30    John 18:37
March 31- April 6    Mark 8:34

March 31-April 6

Life Verse: Mark 8:34
"Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.’”

Weekly Challenge:
This series was designed to give you a taste of what happens when you internalize/memorize God’s Word.  It speaks to you powerfully each day!  Your challenge as an individual or a family is to decide how you will continue to memorize scripture moving forward.  Maybe you will focus on a new verse each week as we have done in this series.  Maybe you will decide to internalize a larger portion of scripture.  Maybe you will use an app to memorize scripture.  Decide how you will continue to experience the joy of memorizing God’s Word.

March 24-30

Life Verse: John 18:37
"'You are a king, then!' said Pilate. Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.’”

Weekly Challenge:
Read John 18:33-40.  Discuss with your family, your spouse, or a friend what this phrase, spoken by Jesus, means:  “My kingdom is not of this world…”  (See Luke 17:21. Consider also the words of the Lord’s Prayer – “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…”)  Think of ways that the truth of Christ’s kingdom comes on earth as it is in heaven.

March 17-23

Life Verse: John 13:34-35
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Weekly Challenge:
For the week ahead, Identify 2-3 people.  These could be people in your home, at your school, at your place of employment, in your neighborhood, etc.  Take the love of Jesus that He has first shared with you and engage random, and perhaps surprising, acts of kindness with these people.  Your acts of love can be done in secret or openly.  If asked why you did these things, share that Jesus’ great love for you inspired your actions.

March 10-16

Life Verse: John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Weekly Challenge:
Pray over the following throughout the week ahead... First, pray that God would strengthen your faith in Jesus more and more. Second, pray daily over someone you know who doesn’t have faith in Jesus. Pray for God’s Spirit to open a door for faith that believes in God’s one and only Son, Jesus Christ.

March 3-9

Life Verse: Romans 8:15
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

Weekly Challenge:
In addition to your Life Verse that you will be working on each week for the sermon series, choose your own life verse! This can be any verse in the Bible that is meaningful to you. Go through your personal verse every week of the series, along with the assigned Life Verse of the week. By the end of the series, your unique Life Verse will be stored deep in your heart.
